Highland Ranches Property Owners' Association
The Highland Ranches Property Owners Association (HRPOA) is a non-profit corporation whose purpose is to protect and further the interests of property owners in the Highland Ranches development in Storey County, Nevada. (popularly known as the "10 acre lots"). Click on the image at right to go the HRPOA website.
NDOT RWIS site at Highlands Flats
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) maintains a network of roadway weather information stations (RWIS) strategically located throughout the region that monitor temperature, precipitation, and wind. The information is used to forecast how winter storms will affect highways. This allows NDOT to make optimal use of anti-icing materials and staff. The Highland Flats RWIS station is located just across from the VCH entrance on SR-341 (Geiger Grade). To get the latest conditions, click on the image at right.
Virginia Range Wildlife Protective Association
The Virginia Range Wildlife Protection Association (VRWPA) is a volunteer nonprofit corporation organized to act on behalf of free-roaming horses and wildlife in the Virginia Range, north of Virginia City, Nevada. VRWPA engages in educational, scientific, developmental and range management activities, and on matters pertaining to the environment and the preservation of wildlife habitat. The organization is organized exclusively for the charitable purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
VRWPA finds good adoptive homes for Estray wild horses picked up by the State of Nevada, monitors the horses, the range, and the laws to insure the survivability of a viable, ecologically balanced herd. If you would like to get involved, contact the VRWPA for more information.
Storey County official website
Storey County's official website has background information about the County, and a list of all departments and contact email addresses, phone numbers and fax numbers. There is also a Current News section where evacuations, emergency alerts, health watches and school and road closures will be listed.
